Charlotte Water is continuing field investigation work in your area for an important water main project that will increase water pressure for customers. As part of this work, subconsultants for Charlotte Water will continue surveying and identifying utility locations and the general terrain in the Hidden Valley neighborhood. These surveying activities may include designating underground utilities by marking specific areas, placing wooden stakes in the ground and identifying existing property boundaries along the road rights-of-way. In some cases, crews may need to dig to find underground utilities and will restore the ground upon completion. This work is expected to take three to four weeks to complete (schedules are subject to change due to weather and other conditions). Additional information can be found in the May 2021 update.

Charlotte Water is conducting preliminary engineering work in the Hidden Valley area for an important project that will increase water pressure in our community. Crews will be conducting a field assessment to identify various utilities and the general terrain. These surveying activities may include designating underground utilities by marking specific areas, placing wooden stakes in the ground, and identifying existing property boundaries along the road rights-of-way. We ask that residents do not remove these stakes and markings as they are critical to completing the design of this project. This work is expected to take 8 to 10 months to complete. More information can be found in the Hidden Valley October 2020 mailer update(PDF, 1MB).

Project overview

Charlotte Water (CLTWater) will replace large valves and install a new water main under Tom Hunter Road from W Sugar Creek Road to N Tryon Street. This maintenance project is needed to increase pressure to customers. After construction, the valves will be activated, delivering a water pressure increase of approximately 20 psi to customers.

Schedule

  • Construction start:
    • Tom Hunter Road: January 2022
    • Hidden Valley neighborhood: Spring 2022
  • Construction duration: 24+ months
  • Normal work hours: 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday

Customers will be notified of planned water outages at least 72-hours in advance. Any unplanned water outages are considered emergencies and will be repaired as soon as possible.

Construction may cause temporary cloudy, discolored water, or lower than usual pressure. If you experience this, please run cold water for up to 15 minutes. If water doesn't clear, please call 311 and say/select "water emergency" for assistance.

Project goals

  • This Charlotte Water project will increase water pressure and enhance service quality for customers in the area.

Public involvement

Areas near construction will be notified before construction. There will be planned water outages. Property owners will be notified in advance. If there is an unplanned water outage, crews will work to fix it immediately.
