Project Overview

The Charlotte Department of Transportation (CDOT) identified a proposed network of bicycle facilities in Uptown to expand the all-ages-and-abilities (AAA) bicycle network. Construction of the first segment of the Uptown CycleLink, along 5th and 6th Streets, was completed in 2021. Advance planning for the College Street, Martin Luther King Jr. (MLK) Boulevard and Davidson Street segments is now complete.

This project will design and construct the Uptown CycleLink along parts of College Street and MLK Boulevard. The project will run along College Street from Good Samaritan Way to MLK Boulevard, then continue down MLK Boulevard to Davidson Street. It will include a LYNX Blue Line crossing gate arm over the cycle track on MLK Boulevard.

Project Goals

  • To connect more than 40 miles of bikeways into and across Uptown Charlotte to help Charlotte
  • To reach the city's vision of becoming a true "city of bikes"
  • To balance the needs of all modes of transportation
  • To increase safety and comfort for cyclists
  • To increase accessibility for cyclists of all ages and abilities
