Project Overview

The West Sugar Creek Mobility Corridor RAISE Grant Project aims to transform West Sugar Creek Road into a complete street, enhancing safety, mobility, quality of life, economic opportunity and environmental sustainability for the surrounding communities. The project will strengthen connections to employment centers, essential services, retail destinations, neighborhoods, parks and the Cross Charlotte Trail.

Key improvements along the 3.5-mile corridor will include the following:

  • Comprehensive complete street upgrades
  • Three new mobility hubs
  • Shared-use paths
  • Safer pedestrian crossings
  • Targeted pedestrian safety enhancements
  • Utility improvements on Nevin Road
  • On-demand public transit (microtransit) and bicycle upgrades at the Sugar Creek light rail station.

The mobility hubs will offer convenient connections to new bus routes and on-demand micromobility zones, expanding transportation options and accessibility for all users.

This project is primarily located along West Sugar Creek Road between the intersections at Nevin Road and North Tryon Street.

  • To enhance safety for pedestrians, motorists, bicyclists and public transit users
  • To increase connectivity to employment centers, retail, neighborhoods, parks and the Cross Charlotte Trail
  • To expand transportation options through mobility hubs
