In Nov. 2025, Mecklenburg County voters approved the one-cent local sales tax referendum, marking a historic investment in the region’s transportation future. The measure will generate an estimated $25.3 billion over 30 years to fund dramatic improvements to public transportation and roadway infrastructure across Charlotte and Mecklenburg County.
We are working to build a reliable and integrated mobility system that will support the city’s adopted vision for a sustainable, connected, prosperous and innovative network that connects people to each other, jobs, housing, amenities, goods, services and the region.
Our plan is part of council’s adopted Strategic Mobility Plan and is designed for transit and road projects to work together seamlessly to build a mobility system that provides Mecklenburg-area residents more options to reliably and quickly get where they are going.
The one-cent sales tax is projected to generate $25.3 billion ($19.4B sales tax + $5.8B federal funding) over 30 years. What will that allow us to do? Invest in all the ways we get around.
