Overview

Located within a drainage area of approximately 695 acres, the Thermal Road Storm Drainage Improvement Project will replace aging infrastructure and provide adequate system capacity. The project area is located along Thermal Road between Pineburr Road to the east and Charter Place to the west.

Project Updates

April 2025

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Storm Water Services and United of the Carolinas, Inc. continue with construction. Work is anticipated to be complete late-2026.

The first phase of this project is nearly complete. Two large 84-inch and 60-inch storm drainage pipes have been installed under Thermal Road.

The second phase of the project will begin in mid-April. Two additional storm drainage pipes will be installed under Thermal Road, between Ramath Drive and Charter Place. 

Thermal Road will remain closed. Access to residences will be maintained.

             

Estimated Cost: $5,400,000*

*includes all costs associated with this project such as planning and design, utility relocation, consultant fees, permits, construction, and landscaping.
