The opportunity to claim a clean energy Federal Tax Credit has sparked a new accelerated deadline for Solarize Charlotte-Mecklenburg, a recently launched community-based campaign aimed at making solar energy and battery power more affordable and accessible for all.

With federal tax credits for residential solar power expiring at the end of 2025, participants in Solarize Charlotte-Mecklenburg are highly encouraged to sign a residential contract by Friday, Aug. 8, to give the best chance to qualify for a 30% tax credit that can help reduce the total cost of a new solar energy system. That leaves a short window to enroll to receive a free, no-obligation proposal and make a decision to purchase with a federal tax credit potentially involved.

While signing a contract after Aug. 8 reduces the likelihood of qualifying for the federal tax credit, homeowners may still be able to complete installation in time. Additionally, all participants, regardless of tax credit contract date, will continue to receive group purchase discounts through the Solarize Charlotte-Mecklenburg program and access to Duke PowerPair program rebates through Oct. 31, 2025.

“The Duke PowerPair program does have a capacity limit," said Don Moreland, President of Solar Crowdsource. "At this time, we anticipate capacity to be available through the end of the year.”

“If you have ever considered solar, now is the time to act if a federal tax credit incentive figures significantly into your decision-making,” said Chris Berg, Senior Sales Director from Renu Energy Solutions, the firm selected for the campaign via a careful vetting process. “In addition, the campaign at its heart saves you money through bulk-purchase pricing.”

The overall no-obligation signup deadline for Solarize Charlotte-Mecklenburg remains Oct. 31. Following that, the deadline for residential contracts to be signed is Dec. 31, 2025. (Property owners considering a system for their business or nonprofit organization have later deadlines due to the time needed to consider a larger-scale system.)

Interested property owners should go to the program website to learn more about the campaign.
