The City of Charlotte is currently accepting applications to fill 12 vacancies for the  Transit Authority Board of Trustees, following the passage of the Projects for Advancing Vehicle-Infrastructure Enhancements (P.A.V.E.) Act. The legislation, signed into law by Governor Josh Stein on July 1, authorizes the creation of the Transit Authority to advance mobility, strengthen regional growth and improve the public transit system throughout Mecklenburg County.

The creation of the authority is contingent upon voter approval of the one-cent sales tax referendum on the November 2025 ballot. If voters approve the referendum, the Transit Authority will be established to finance, provide, operate and maintain a safe, reliable, efficient and environmentally-sound transit system for the region.

Board Structure and Vacancies

The Transit Authority Board of Trustees will consist of 27 members appointed by Mecklenburg County, the City of Charlotte, Mecklenburg towns, the Governor and the General Assembly. The city is responsible for appointing 12 of the 27 members.

  • Term length: Four years (initial terms will be staggered at two and four years).
