What

Treetops & Tombstones: Charlotte’s “Super Natural” Arboretum

City of Charlotte Landscape Management invites the media to attend a special guided tour of historic Elmwood Cemetery, which is also a certified arboretum. Attendees will learn how to identify local trees and hear fascinating stories about the historical figures buried at the cemetery. This popular event fills up every year and draws strong community interest.

Charlotte’s tree canopy is a jewel in its crown and needs the community’s help to keep it healthy and vibrant. This event sparks curiosity about trees, encourages residents to plant new trees and raises awareness of how trees support cooler, cleaner and healthier neighborhoods.

The initiative is part of a broader effort to reach communities of every demographic, rebuild the canopy for future generations and promote the city’s free street tree program, which provides tree planting and maintenance in city rights-of-way at no cost to residents.
