City of Charlotte Announces 2025 Urbies Winners

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (Oct. 24, 2025) – The City of Charlotte Urban Design Center (UDC) hosted the fifth annual Urban Design Awards, known as the Urbies, in a special ceremony held on Thursday, Oct. 23. The event spotlighted outstanding achievements in urban design and celebrated the people and places shaping Charlotte’s evolving landscape.
The Urbies honor excellence in urban design across the Queen City while inspiring ongoing community dialogue about what makes a place truly great. A diverse jury of 10 urban design professionals selected the winners from a strong field of public nominations. The awards ceremony was held at the Charlotte Urban Design Center, celebrating both emerging and established examples of design excellence.

- Great New Life for an Old Place – Carolina Theater
- Great Public Space – Rail Trail
- Great Placemaking – Purposeful Walk
- Great Mobility Project – XCLT Trail
- Great Urban Architecture – The Collective
- Great Urban Design Champion – Dave Walters
- Great Neighborhood Champion – Rickey Hall
- Great Student Project – The Artist Touch
- Great Suburban Design – Montford Park
- People’s Choice Award for Great Urban Design – Camp North End
