Charlotte operates under a council-manager form of government. The mayor and City Council are responsible for making policy decisions for the community. The city manager is responsible for carrying out those decisions, as well as providing vision and leadership to the organization and overseeing the daily operations of city government.
On June 12, 2023, Charlotte City Council voted to adopt the $3.3 billion FY 2024 budget. The budget was developed to lead the City of Charlotte toward addressing the most foundational and pressing needs of the city and is led by City Council’s Strategic Priorities. The Adopted Budget will go into effect July 1, 2023.
