
Education:
North Carolina Central University, bachelor’s degree in information systems.
Professional Experience:
Council Member Mitchell has spent much of his professional career working in the construction industry. He has held several leadership roles, including serving as Director of Business Development for Barton Malow, and J.E. Dunn, and as the former CEO of R.J. Leeper Construction. He currently serves as Director of Business Development for McFarland Construction Company.
Civic Engagement:
He has been involved in multiple leadership organizations in the community, including serving as vice president of the Black Political Caucus and president of Focus on Leadership, Save-the-Seed, Black Data Processing Association, Young Democrats of Mecklenburg County, and Founder of Next Level Leadership. Also, he served as a Board of Trustees for North Carolina Central University.
Key Achievements:
Accomplishments include helping to bring thousands of jobs and several large events to Charlotte, one being the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) . Other achievements he had a role in are Northlake Mall, Truist Field, Bank of America stadium improvements, two political conventions and the Charlotte Inclusion Program. He also contributed to renaming a street in Uptown after Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Awards and Recognitions:
Mitchell served as President of National League of Cities in 2011.Mitchell is the recipient of the Democratic Municipal Official of the Year award in 2012.
