0:03 [Music] 0:06 there's no 0:07 room for we can't fix a fire truck it 0:10 can't happen 0:11 you have to fix it there's no backing 0:14 down from at all we'll get to it later 0:15 no 0:16 you have to be there you have to get 0:18 this done now no matter what this 0:20 truck's got to go 0:27 [Music] 0:38 my name is rodney lee 0:40 my title is heavy duty technician 0:44 for the city of charlotte here 0:46 maintaining fire trucks for the city of 0:48 charlotte 0:49 [Music] 0:55 we have to go out and do panic stops to 0:57 make sure nothing's 1:00 uh when you hit the brakes like that the 1:02 steering wheel ain't trying to jerk out 1:03 of your hand or it's actually coming to 1:05 a smooth stop in that panic stop right 1:07 now 1:15 [Music] 1:16 a typical day of work is 1:19 trucks constantly breaking the city is 1:21 growing and it's growing fast these fire 1:24 trucks are breaking they're breaking 1:25 fast because they have the response 1:27 and there's a lot of 1:29 behind the scenes a lot of people don't 1:31 know about it it takes a lot to run one 1:33 of these five 1:41 there's probably 120 fire trucks 1:44 equipment wise there's probably up to uh 1:47 seven 800 pieces of equipment that we 1:48 have to maintain yearly and each truck 1:50 has to come in at least twice a year 1:53 my family loves what i do 1:55 my grandkids my wife they all think it's 1:58 special and what i do and it is special 2:00 i've always seen fire truck as every 2:02 little kid does a lot of kids they love 2:04 fire trucks they love them and 2:06 it makes me excited that sometimes we 2:08 leave out here we have to test drive 2:10 them and my youngest girl i used to do 2:12 that to her and uh 2:14 and she sit in the back of truck and we 2:16 rolled around the parking lot and she 2:17 was just laughing like to no end 2:19 so now she's actually a charlotte 2:21 firefighter causing me 2:23 she just became a charlotte firefighter 2:25 i look at each one of the firefighters 2:28 as my kid 2:29 if one of those get hurt and it's due to 2:31 something i've done i feel just as 2:33 responsible as anyone else every life is 2:36 very important to me that gets in that 2:38 truck 2:38 and that's the way all the guys that i 2:40 work with feel 2:42 again it takes a special person to be a 2:44 firefighter technician 2:46 you can ask any of them anything you 2:47 want to they're going to give you the 2:48 same answer 2:50 we're we're we're sort of weird but we 2:52 love our job and we do our job well the 2:54 firemen's that drive these trucks 2:56 are just as important but 2:59 it takes us for them to be them who they 3:01 are so 3:02 that's the bottom line
