Solid Waste Services Guide to Spring Cleaning

Published on March 20, 2025

Hands deposit yard waste into a paper bag.

It may not feel like the first day of Spring, but the spring-cleaning mood could still strike you at any moment. Before you start tidying up, make sure you know how to get rid of everything, whether you’re cleaning inside or outside the house.

Oversized items that are too large to fit in a rollout cart and are not eligible for yard waste pickup can be scheduled for convenient curbside pickup. From couches and mattresses to old appliances and electronics, there is a long list of items that are eligible for the city’s bulky item collection.

Scheduling is easy! Residents can call 311, use the CLT+ app, or fill out an online form. Just schedule your pickup, and make sure your item(s) are out at the curb in time. If you need to cancel or make changes to an existing pickup request, please call 311 by noon on the business day prior to your scheduled pickup.

If you’re cleaning up outside, you may have an abundance of weeds, leaves and branches that you want out of the way. As long as everything is prepared properly and sitting curbside, Solid Waste Services will pick it up!

Yard waste is collected from the curb once a week on your scheduled collection day as long as the materials meet preparation requirements. Residents must use paper yard waste bags or reusable containers weighing no more than 75 pounds when preparing leaves and grass clippings for yard waste collection. Limbs and branches will be collected loose as long as they are within the size requirements.

If you need to restock on paper bags, residents can pick some up on the front porch of 1105 Otts St. Monday through Friday while supplies last.
