Neighborhood Matching Grants header

The Neighborhood Matching Grants (NMG) Program supports resident-led efforts to improve and strengthen Charlotte's neighborhoods. Since 1992, the City of Charlotte has provided matching funds to eligible neighborhood-based organizations to help bring community-driven ideas to life. The program focuses on building capacity, encouraging active resident participation, and supporting projects that deliver visible and lasting impact.

Eligible Neighborhood-Based Organizations Include:

  • Neighborhood Associations
  • Homeowners Associations
  • Neighborhood Coalitions
  • Neighborhood & Business Associations
  • Resident Organizations in Rental Communities
  • Community Development Corporations (CDCs)

Eligible Geography Eligibility is based in part on the Neighborhood Profile Area (NPA) median assessed property value. Organizations must be located within the designated eligible program geography to apply.

  • Geography Area I — NPA median assessed property value up to $310,200
  • Geography Area II — NPA median assessed property value between $310,201 and $536,150

Eligibility changes resulting from the 2023 Mecklenburg County Property Revaluation became effective as of the September 2025 grant cycle.

Additional eligibility criteria apply and will be outlined when the application cycle opens.

Award Amounts

  • Neighborhood Associations, HOAs, and Resident Organizations in Rental Communities — up to $25,000 per application, no annual maximum
  • Neighborhood Coalitions and CDCs — up to $25,000 per application, $25,000 maximum per calendar year

Application Status

The next funding cycle opens on July 29th with applications due September 1st 2026. Attendance at a pre-application workshop is required prior to applying. Registration is required to attend a workshop session.

Preparing for Future Funding Opportunities While this program is not currently accepting applications, organizations are encouraged to begin preparing by:

  • Confirming your organization falls within the eligible geography
  • Identifying a resident-led project idea with visible, lasting community impact
  • Engaging residents early to build support and shape the project direction
  • Documenting your project concept, estimated costs, and intended community benefit
