Waverly-Marlwood Water Quality Enhancement Project

  • Project typeStorm Water Services
Overview

The Waverly-Marlwood Surface Water Quality Enhancement Project will remove built-up sediment from Waverly and Marlwood ponds. The ponds collect, hold and slowly release stormwater from a drainage area of approximately 1,337 acres. Removing the sediment will give the ponds more room to hold water longer, helping to filter out pollutants before the water flows downstream.

  • Waverly Pond is bordered by Judas Tree Lane to the north, Albemarle Road to the south, Faulconbridge Road to the east, and Almond Road to the west.
  • Marlwood Pond is bordered by Timber Lake Drive on the east and Marlwood Circle on the north, south and west.

Project Updates

December 2025

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Storm Water Services will begin removing built-up sediment from Waverly and Marlwood ponds soon. This work will give the ponds more room to hold water longer, helping filter out pollutants before the water flows downstream.

On August 25, 2025, City Council awarded the construction contract to Eagle Wood, Inc. Dredging operations at Waverly Pond are scheduled to start in January. Once complete, operations will move to Marlwood Pond. The entire project is anticipated to take approximately one year.

During the next few weeks, these activities may be underway: locating and flagging utilities, marking work zones and surveying the ponds.
