Overview

The Magnolia/Winthrop Storm Drainage Improvement Project will reduce street and structure flooding throughout the neighborhood. Located within a drainage area of approximately 30 acres, the project will replace aging infrastructure and provide adequate system capacity. The project area is bordered by Magnolia Avenue to the north, Ideal Way to the south, Dairy Branch to the east and Iverson Way to the west.

Project Updates

June 2026

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Storm Water Services is working with Greenwater Development LLC, to construct storm drainage improvements in the Magnolia/Winthrop area. The project is anticipated to be complete in mid-2027. Thank you for your patience.

  • On July 6, a section of Winthrop Avenue between Ideal Way and Diana Drive is anticipated to close.
  • As the project progresses, the closed section of road will shift along Winthrop Avenue toward Meacham Street over the coming months.
  • Access to residences will be maintained.
  • To ensure the safety of motorists, pedestrians and crew, please follow all signs.
                     

Estimated Cost: $4,600,000*

*includes all costs associated with this project such as planning and design, utility relocation, consultant fees, permits, construction, and landscaping.
