Overview

The Magnolia/Winthrop Storm Drainage Improvement Project will reduce street and structure flooding throughout the neighborhood. Located within a drainage area of approximately 30 acres, the project will replace aging infrastructure and provide adequate system capacity. The project area is bordered by Magnolia Avenue to the north, Ideal Way to the south, Dairy Branch to the east and Iverson Way to the west.

Project Updates

April 2026

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Storm Water Services is working with Greenwater Development LLC, to construct storm drainage improvements in the Magnolia/Winthrop area. Construction is starting and the project is anticipated to be complete in mid-2027. Thank you for your patience.

A single lane closure is planned for a portion of Ideal Way between Springdale Avenue and McDonald Avenue starting May 4. Traffic control flaggers will assist two-way traffic flow. The lane closure is anticipated to last 45 days.

As the project progresses, road closures are planned for portions of Springdale Road and Winthrop Avenue. Access to residences will be maintained. To ensure the safety of motorists, pedestrians and crew, please follow all signs.

                    

Estimated Cost: $4,600,000*

*includes all costs associated with this project such as planning and design, utility relocation, consultant fees, permits, construction, and landscaping.
