Overview

The Farmer Storm Drainage Improvement Project will reduce street flooding throughout the neighborhood. Located within a drainage area of approximately 50 acres, the project will replace aging infrastructure and provide adequate drainage system capacity. The project area is bordered by West Boulevard to the north, Caronia Street to the south, Clanton Road to the east and Rose Avenue to the west.

April 2026

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Storm Water Services and United of the Carolinas, Inc. continue with construction of the Farmer Storm Drainage Improvement Project. Work is anticipated to be completed by mid-2027.

Project Updates

•   Storm drainage improvements at the intersection of Romare Bearden Drive and Spring Forest Drive are nearly complete.

•   Storm drainage improvements near the West Boulevard Library have begun.

•   Romare Bearden Drive between West Boulevard and Farmer Street remains closed to through traffic.

   

Estimated Cost: $9,700,000*

*includes all costs associated with this project such as planning and design, utility relocation, consultant fees, permits, construction, and landscaping.
