The City of Charlotte is proud to support small businesses and entrepreneurs who keep our city thriving. Mayor Vi Lyles has proclaimed May as Charlotte Small Business Month, a time to celebrate the innovation, resilience and impact of the city's small business community. Throughout the month, Charlotte Economic Development will recognize these contributions by sharing resources to help businesses grow and by highlighting the people behind them.

Charlotte Economic Development celebrates Small Business Month on its social media channels with daily videos and features recognizing local entrepreneurs and partner organizations. The 2026 campaign highlights businesses across Charlotte's Corridors of Opportunity and celebrates the innovators shaping the city's future. Celebrate with us using #31DaysofBiz.

10th Annual Small Business Month Kickoff

This event is from 5:30-:30 p.m. on Monday, May 4, at The Market at 7th Street, 224 E. 7th St. This year marks a decade of celebrating Charlotte's small business community and will honor the 2026 #31DaysofBiz honorees. Attendees will have the opportunity to connect with business owners, city leaders and partner organizations, while enjoying networking, local food and music. The event is free and open to the public. Crowns of Enterprise Awards

Join the City of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County for the Crowns of Enterprise Awards from 5-7:30 p.m. on Thursday, May , as they recognize small businesses that demonstrate exemplary leadership, innovation and sound business practices.

Mayor's International Community Awards (MICA)

Presented by the Charlotte International Cabinet and the Office of the Mayor, MICA honors foreign-owned firms and individuals in the Charlotte for their contributions to philanthropy, business leadership and the growth of the city's international community.

Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) is a global celebration of innovators, entrepreneurs, and startups, aimed at fostering growth and connection within local and international entrepreneurial ecosystems. This year in Charlotte, GEW brings together founders, investors, community leaders, and startup enthusiasts for a series of dynamic events. These events will spotlight opportunities in the Queen City, providing valuable insights, networking, and support for all participants.
