Property Owner Tips

  • Check Storm Drains Often: Remove leaves, limbs and trash to ensure stormwater flows freely into storm drains. Call 311 to report a major blockage.
  • Prevent Stream Blockages: If a stream is on your private property, remove tree limbs or debris that might create a blockage.
  • Protect Stream Banks and Drainage Ditches: Keep live vegetation on banks to hold soil in place, reduce erosion and prevent sediment build up.
  • Keep Drainage Ditches and Swales Clear: Remove trash and debris so stormwater can flow freely.
  • Purchase Flood Insurance: Regular home insurance doesn’t cover flooding. Consider purchasing flood insurance, even if you don’t live in a flood zone.
