The City of Charlotte is currently accepting applications to fill the vacant District 6 City Council seat. Below are frequently asked questions to help guide interested applicants through the process.
Who can apply for the District 6 City Council seat?
To be eligible, you must:
- Be a registered voter in Mecklenburg County.
- Be at least 21 years of age.
- Be a registered Republican.
- Reside in District 6.
When does the application period open and close?
- Opens: Wednesday, April 30 at 9 a.m.
- Closes: Tuesday, May 13 at 5 p.m.
Late applications will not be accepted.

What is the optional public forum?
The public forum on May 16 will allow applicants to briefly introduce themselves and share their interest in serving on the City Council. It is open to the public and will be streamed live on the GOV Channel.
Applicants who wish to participate must register in advance using the speaker sign-up form.
What happens after the appointment is made?
The selected applicant will:
- Participate in an informal swearing-in on May 20.
- Be formally sworn in at the City Council meeting on June 2.
- Begin serving immediately. The appointed official will serve until the candidate elected in the November 2025 election for the 2025–2027 term assumes office.
