The City of Charlotte is accepting nominations for the Crown Tree Awards. These awards celebrate Charlotte’s remarkable urban forest and the individuals and organizations dedicated to its preservation and growth.

The Crown Tree Awards recognize those who have made significant contributions to Charlotte’s urban canopy. Winners will be honored with a plaque and certificate at the Charlotte Tree Advisory Committee meeting in May. Award recipients will also receive special recognition from Charlotte’s Mayor and City Council for their efforts in sustaining Charlotte’s tree-lined beauty.

Nomination Details

Nominations are open to all and must include an award category and a description of why the nominee deserves to win. Submissions should be related to Charlotte-area trees, partners and urban forestry efforts to qualify.

Award Categories include:

  • Mayor’s Tree of the Year
  • Spirit of the Tree
  • Corporate Friend of the Urban Forest
  • Proud Partner of the Canopy

New Category

This year’s awards introduce a new category: "Draw a Charlotte Tree". This is an opportunity for residents to celebrate the beauty of Charlotte’s natural landscape by creating original artwork inspired by the trees that define our city — from towering oaks to blooming dogwoods.

Participants can showcase their creativity, connect with nature, and highlight the tree canopy that makes Charlotte unique.

The contest is open to three age groups:

  • Up to age 7
  • Ages 8–12
  • Ages 13–17

How to Nominate

Nominations must be submitted on the nomination page and include a photograph of the tree with your submission. The deadline for nominations is May 31, 2026.
