CATS to Launch New West Charlotte Microtransit Zone
Published on October 15, 2026
Media are invited to join the Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS), the Metropolitan Public Transportation Authority (MPTA) and City of Charlotte leaders on Friday, Oct. 16 at noon for a public celebration marking the launch of the new West Charlotte microtransit zone and other early system enhancements, launched Monday, Oct. 5.
The event will take place at the Renaissance West Community Initiative in West Charlotte.
The new West Charlotte microtransit zone is one of the first improvements funded through last year’s transit referendum, passed by Mecklenburg County voters and represents an early milestone in the implementation of the 2055 Transit System Plan.
The zone provides daily service from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. and connects riders to key destinations including the Charlotte Regional Farmers Market, South Charlotte VA Clinic, Walmart on Wilkinson Boulevard and the Blue Line Woodlawn Station.
Additional updates implemented on Oct. 5 include increased frequency on select bus routes, extended microtransit service hours in North Mecklenburg and the addition of a new weekday connector route in northern Mecklenburg County.
Speakers will include
- Brent Cagle, Interim CEO, Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS)
- David Howard, Chair, Metropolitan Public Transportation Authority (MPTA) Board
