The second annual Lovin’ Life Music Festival will fill the streets this weekend. Festivalgoers will enjoy a mix of music from local Charlotte bands all the way up to headliners like Weezer and Gwen Stefani. However, it won’t be the only event happening in Uptown at the time. The Kendrick Lamar and SZA concert, Knights game, and ACC Men’s Lacrosse Championship will also draw people to the city.

“This incredible lineup of events shows what we already know: Charlotte has become a true destination for music, sports and culture,” Mayor Vi Lyles said at a press conference Monday.

No matter which event you decide to attend, or if you’re just heading into Uptown this weekend, we're breaking down everything you need to know to have a safe, fun weekend.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s (CMPD) Special Events Division will staff their Command Center for three days for both Lovin’ Life and Kendrick Lamar/SZA. Police will shut down streets starting Wednesday, April 30 at 9 a.m.  The road closures are Seventh, Eighth, and Ninth Streets between Caldwell Street and the light rail tracks and Brevard and Caldwell Streets between Ninth and Sixth Streets. To find all closure information, check out our Street Use & Event Notice page. Officers aims to reopen roads Tuesday, May 6 before rush hour.

CMPD Deputy Chief Jacquelyn Bryley encourages anyone who needs help or has information about an issue that occurs to approach the police officers around the events. A dispatcher is assigned specifically to the festival as well.

Charlotte Area Transit System

Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) will run extra blue line trains to get everyone to their destination safely and quickly. CATS has an unlimited pass available now until May 3. You can purchase the three-day pass until Thursday, May 1 for $12. The price jumps to $15 until the last day of sales. You can book your pass through the CATS-Pass app.

Express buses will also be available from the event to the University City Boulevard, JW Clay and I-485 park and rides each night.

CATS Travel Ambassadors will be outside different station to help you. Look for the people in bright yellow CATS shirts. Find additional information on the CATS Lovin’ Life Music Fest page.
