Charlotte's First Tree by Tree Mapping Competition

Ready to explore the outdoors, learn something new, and have a little friendly competition? Charlotte’s first-ever Tree by Tree Mapping Competition is your chance to get outside, discover the trees in your neighborhood, and help support a big environmental mission—one tree at a time. Join solo or grab a team… either way, you’ll earn bragging rights and maybe even some prizes!

Competition Dates

* The competition launches immediately after the Creek Week Tree Identification and Mapping event at Long Creek Greenway. Trees mapped during this event DO NOT COUNT toward the Tree by Tree Competition.)

How it Works

  • Sign up as an individual or form a team.
  • We’ll show you how to spot, measure and map trees with easy-to-use tools.
  • Map as many trees as you can during the competition period.
  • Keep climbing that leaderboard and see how high you can go!

What You’ll Learn

Throughout the challenge, you’ll learn:

  • Hands-on skills for identifying and mapping different tree species;
  • Insight into why tree data is a big deal for planning, conservation and climate resilience;
  • Confidence using digital tools to support environmental science; and
  • A new appreciation for the amazing biodiversity right outside your door.
