Inclement Weather Collection Schedule

Due to inclement weather, City of Charlotte Solid Waste Services suspended collection service on Wednesday, Jan. 22. Collection will resume on Thursday, Jan. 23. Yard waste service is suspended for the remainder of the week.

With the city being closed on Monday, Jan. 20, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, collection service was operating on a one-day delay with Tuesday customers preparing to receive service on Wednesday. Tuesday customers should leave their carts at the curb until crews are able to collect them.

Wednesday, Thursday and Friday customers will continue under the original adjusted holiday schedule for the week.

• Wednesday customers will receive collection on Thursday, Jan. 23.
• Thursday customers will receive collection on Friday, Jan. 24.
• Friday customers will receive service on Saturday, Jan. 25.
• Leave all carts at the curb until they are collected.

Solid Waste Services is committed to ensuring the safety of both its staff and residents. Please help us by following these tips:

• Set out items by 6 a.m.: To avoid delays, please make sure your collection items are placed at the curb no later than 6 a.m. on your collection day.
• Place carts in accessible areas: Position your garbage and recycling carts in a clear location away from snow and ice to allow our collection crews safe access.
• Clear snow and ice from pathways: To assist our crews, please shovel and de-ice your driveway and the area around your carts. This will make it easier for our teams to reach and collect your waste.
• Use alternative collection locations if needed: If your regular collection spot becomes inaccessible due to snow and ice buildup, please move your carts to a more accessible location, such as the end of your driveway or a clear street area.
• Monitor weather and collection updates: Snowstorms may cause delays or changes to collection schedules. Please stay updated by checking local weather forecasts and city notifications for schedule adjustments.
• Stay safe: When placing or removing your carts at the curb, please exercise caution to avoid slips or injuries.

Solid Waste Services offers collection updates via text. Residents who would like to receive updates regarding impacts to their collection service can text their day of service to 73224. For example, if their collection day is Thursday, they would text “Thursday” to 73224.

You can find your collection day by visiting the GeoPortal. Simply type in your address to be reminded of what day of the week you receive service and if you are an orange or green recycling week.
