Most of you are familiar with the three lakes along Charlotte-Mecklenburg’s western border, but did you know we have more than 50 named creeks that span more than 3,000 miles? These abundant natural resources are gradually becoming more visible as our greenway system expands, but creeks aren’t usually on people’s minds unless there’s a problem. That’s why Charlotte-Mecklenburg Storm Water Services and several partners are celebrating the seventh annual Creek Week. From Saturday, March 22 through Saturday, March 29, you’re invited to learn how "Creeks Connect Us" through a full calendar of volunteer and educational events.

Storm drains along our streets carry stormwater runoff directly to our creeks and lakes typically without any treatment. Runoff picks up lots of trash, pet waste, oils, sediment and other pollutants that end up in our waterways. Creek Week provides opportunities to learn about and help clean up and protect these often-hidden gems.

This year’s event lineup is more eclectic and exciting than ever, including stream cleanups, a creek meditation, learning to fish in creeks, story time with Stormy for the kiddos, and much more! There’s something for everyone and all age groups. Make sure to check out our list of events. We look forward to connecting with you!
