Greenway alongside a creek

Did you know that Charlotte-Mecklenburg has more than 50 named creeks that span more than 3,000 miles? While creeks may not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think of our city, this abundant natural resource is the reason that Charlotte-Mecklenburg Storm Water Services is celebrating its sixth annual Creek Week. From Saturday, March 16, through Saturday, March 23, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Storm Water Services invites you to ‘creek it up a notch’ during this week full of learning opportunities and volunteer events.

Storm drains along our streets carry stormwater runoff directly to our creeks without any treatment. Runoff carries a lot of trash, pet waste, oils and other pollutants that end up in our creeks. Creek Week provides an opportunity to learn about and help clean up and protect these often-hidden gems.

From a nature hike along one of our creeks, to a fishing event where the entire family can learn about fishing locally, to creek cleanups and tours where you can get hands-on and help protect our creeks, there are opportunities for creek lovers of all ages!

Events will take place throughout Charlotte-Mecklenburg. Make sure to check out our list of events!
