CHARLOTTE, N.C. (March 12, 2024) — The Charlotte Planning, Design & Development Department is pleased to announce the release of three significant deliverables for Community Area Planning, marking the conclusion of the second phase of a five-part process over two years.

The deliverables include:

  1. A revised draft of the Charlotte Future 2040 Policy Map to reflect community comments.
  2. The Charlotte Future 2040 Policy Map Manual.
  3. Staff responses to comments received during phase two engagement of Community Area Planning. Stakeholders may access staff comments online.

The Charlotte Future 2040 Policy Map serves as a vital companion to the Charlotte Future 2040 Comprehensive Plan, offering guidance on the appropriate type and intensity of development across the city. This revised version reflects extensive community feedback collected and strategic planning efforts made during the Community Area Planning process.

The Charlotte Future 2040 Policy Map Manual provides essential insights into the intended use of the map and outlines procedures for potential amendments, ensuring transparency and accountability in the planning process.

The third and fourth phases of Community Area Planning will commence this spring and fall. The final phase begins winter 2025.

Continued Community Engagement

The City of Charlotte encourages continued community engagement and invites stakeholders to review the Revised Charlotte Future 2040 Policy Map and Manual. Feedback can be provided online now through June 12, 2024. There will be additional opportunities to review and provide feedback on the 2040 Policy Map and Manual during 2024 fall workshops for the Community Area Planning process.
