Charlotte-Mecklenburg Animal Care & Control Urges Caution Amid Seasonal Heat and Firework Activity
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Animal Care & Control is issuing a public safety reminder urging pet owners to take extra precautions as the region enters peak summer months.Hot temperatures, fireworks, thunderstorms, and other seasonal events can create dangerous and stressful conditions for animals.
Pets should never be left unattended in vehicles. If you see an animal left in a vehicle, please call 911 immediately, as this is an emergency situation with the high temperatures we are experiencing.

Road Close Notice – Access to Animal Care & Control
Please be advised that part of Byrum Drive near Animal Care & Control’s main shelter at 8315 Byrum Drive, Charlotte, NC 28217, is currently closed due to road work.
Detour Information:
While a section of Byrum Drive is closed, you can still reach our shelter by following the posted detour signs. Please note: you will need to drive between "Road Closed" signs that also state "Road Ends in 0.5 Miles" — this is the correct route to access our facility.
