Project Overview

This project will improve the intersection of Lakeview Road and Reames Road and provide a sidewalk on Lakeview Road from Reames Road to Beatties Ford Road. Lakeview Road is expected to have higher traffic volumes and different travel patterns due to the new "direct connect" interchange with I-77 being constructed as a part of the North Carolina Department of Transportation I-77 express lanes project. This project will address this projected increase in traffic volume at the intersection.

Project Goals

  • To improve the function of the intersection
  • To improve safety for all modes of traffic
  • To improve pedestrian and bicycle access to Hornets' Nest Park
  • To enhance transit access and coordinate with the NCDOT I-77 express lanes project

Public Involvement

Extensive community engagement and outreach took place in connection with the Sunset/Beatties Ford Road CNIP planning process.

Public meetings occur throughout the planning phase to introduce residents to the project and get their feedback. The following public meeting dates have taken place for this project:

  • March 1, 2017 at Hornets Nest Elementary School
  • November 1, 2016 at Lakeview Elementary School
