Council Member Renee Johnson

Education: A bachelor’s degree in business administration; A master’s degree in human services; A post-baccalaureate certification in addiction consulting. 

Professional Experience: Council Member Johnson is the founder and executive director of Triumph Services, an organization designed to provide behavioral health services to survivors of trauma, including but not limited to acquired brain injury. 

Civic Engagement: She is the former board chair of Montessori Renaissance Community School and a former board member of Rahab’s Hideaway (an organization designed to assist victims of Human Trafficking), United Faith of America, and Make It Happen Foundation. She has also participated on the Charlotte Continuum of Care, Mecklenburg County Re-entry Partners, and the Re-entry Housing Alliance. 

Key Achievements: Since joining Council, she fought to ensure that meetings are more accessible by having an ASL interpreter. In 2022, she championed the city’s first infrastructure meeting. She also began a coalition in her district meant to empower residents to use their voices for change. 

Council Committee Assignments: Transportation, Planning and Development; Housing, Safety and Community 

Platform and Goals: Her key priorities include affordable housing, strategic and responsible development, and public accountability.
