Energy Saver North Carolina

Beginning in 2026, the Energy Saver North Carolina program has come to Charlotte. This initiative helps income-eligible homeowners and renters across the state cover the cost of energy efficiency and electrification upgrades. There are two rebates within the program — Homeowners Managing Efficiency Savings (HOMES) and Home Electrification and Appliance Rebates (HEAR).

Homeowners Managing Efficiency Savings (HOMES)

These rebates are for improvements that increase the overall energy efficiency of a home, such as insulation, air sealing, and upgrading heating and cooling systems.

Steps to qualify:

  1. Confirm your income. (Rebates depend on household income and estimated energy savings.)
  2. Get a free home assessment.
  3. Select a rebate project.
  4. Select a registered contractor.
  5. Apply for your rebate.

Home Electrification and Appliance Rebates (HEAR)

These rebates support the purchase of energy-efficient appliances and the electrification of home systems, like cooking, laundry, hot water, and heating and cooling. The beauty of the HEAR program is its flexibility to fit your budget and timeline, allowing you to consider new efficient equipment whether you’re replacing a broken water heater, improving your comfort, or just want to take your cooking or laundry routine to the next level.

Meeting our SEAP+ Goals Together

The benefits that the Energy Saver program has to offer align with the progress the city is aiming to make via its Strategic Energy Action Plan Plus (SEAP+). We have a community-wide goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions 72% by 2035 and achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.

Buildings in Charlotte account for a major portion of the city’s total emissions, and residential buildings have the largest emittance within that category. With Energy Saver rebates, you can make your home more energy efficient and electrify your home systems — all contributing to our SEAP+ goals. Retrofitting and electrification have sizable impacts on greenhouse gas emissions, and Energy Saver is a simple step in the right direction.
