Hurricane season is June 1 - Nov. 30. In 2023, there were 20 named tropical systems in the Atlantic Ocean, ranking fourth for the most-named storms in a year since 1950. The 2024 season is predicted to be another active season with 20 to 25 named storms, which is well above the normal 14. Inland flooding is the second leading cause of fatalities during tropical storms and hurricanes.
