Charlotte operates under a council-manager form of government. The mayor and City Council are responsible for making policy decisions for the community. The city manager is responsible for carrying out those decisions, as well as providing vision and leadership to the organization and overseeing the daily operations of city government.
On May 5, 2025, City Manager Marcus D. Jones presented the $3.65 billion Proposed Fiscal Year (FY) 2026 Budget. The budget was developed with a focus on continuing to build on the city's solid financial foundation to meet the needs of the Charlotte community, advance Council's priorities, and prepare for future growth and opportunities. City Council is scheduled to vote to adopt the FY 2026 Budget on June 9, 2025.
