Charlotte, N.C. (April 2, 2024) – Charlotte Planning, Design & Development has launched CANOPY, a platform designed to explore, plan and enrich Charlotte's tree canopy. This advanced application provides residents with a convenient and user-friendly way to access recent urban tree canopy cover data in their area, with customizable filters based on factors like land cover type and planting area classification.

"This application highlights our commitment to keeping our community informed and engaged in nurturing and preserving our vibrant tree canopy,” said Alyson Craig, the city’s planning director. “We understand the importance of transparent and accessible information, and we aim to empower residents with an intuitive tool to stay updated on tree canopy data and opportunities in their neighborhoods."

Central to this tool is an interactive web map viewer, allowing residents to effortlessly explore urban tree canopy data. Residents have the option to view canopy data, plan and prioritize criteria for planting, and use the grow tool to forecast future benefits and reach goals.
