When the tone drops and sirens scream into the night, it all begins with a voice. Calm, steady, focused. That voice belongs to a Charlotte Fire Telecommunicator, the critical first link in our city’s chain of emergency response.

They don’t ride on fire trucks. They don’t hold hoses. But they are lifesavers.

In a small room filled with screens, radios, and urgency, Charlotte’s Fire Telecommunicators guide our crews through the chaos. A call about a trapped family. A house filling with smoke. A medical emergency with seconds to spare. These are the moments when lives hang in the balance, and the voice on the other end becomes a lifeline.

Charlotte Fire is now hiring Fire Telecommunicators, and we’re looking for people who can stay calm under pressure, listen with purpose, and think fast. People who are ready to become the unseen heroes behind every rescue.
