Charlotte Transportation Center Redevelopment

The current Charlotte Transportation Center, located at 310 E. Trade St., is almost 30 years old. The new facility is proposed to be built on the same city block.

CATS and the City of Charlotte are responding to proposal to redevelop the existing Charlotte Transportation Center (CTC) into an upgraded facility.

The new facility will create seamless connections to CATS express and local bus services, Blue Line light rail, Gold Line streetcar, and the pedestrian Rail Trail, which runs adjacent to the Blue Line.

On January 31, 2023, the Metropolitan Transit Commission adopted the Concourse design concept as the Locally Preferred Alternative for the proposed redevelopment of the Charlotte Transportation Center.

CATS, in coordination with the Federal Transit Administration (FTA), began an Environmental Assessment (EA) for the project.  In November 2024, CATS received a decision of categorical exclusion in response to the draft  EA document.
