The Blue Line Extension to Pineville and Ballantyne Locally Preferred Alternative (LPA) is the desired project vision adopted by the appropriate local agencies and official boards. The Blue Line Extension to Pineville and Ballantyne also includes a minimum operable segment (MOS), which is a shorter portion of the LPA that can function independently while providing meaningful service. The MOS is included in the fiscally constrained plan.
The LPA is a proposed extension of light rail service from the existing terminus of the Blue Line at I-485/South Boulevard to Community House Road in Ballantyne.

The map depicts a simplified version of Mecklenburg County and the Rapid Transit Corridor System. A gray line representing the I-485 loop encircles Uptown, where the Gold Line, Silver Line, Blue Line and Red Line alignments meet. There is a zoomed insert of just Uptown Charlotte in the upper left hand corner of the map depicting there the rail lines intersect, with an emphasis on the CTC and stations on the Blue Line from Carson to Parkwood. Each of the rail lines has a unique color (Red for Red Line, Blue for Blue Line, Yellow for Gold Line and Gray for Silver Line) and a unique icon to identify each type of rail.
