Effective: Sept. 2 – Sept. 30, 2026

CATS began its 2026 Origin and Destination Survey today, Sept. 2. You may be asked to take part while riding a bus, the Blue Line or the Gold Line through the end of September.

Surveyors wearing blue vests and official CATS badges will randomly select customers and ask brief questions about the trip they are taking, recording answers on a tablet. Interviews will take about five to seven minutes.

The survey records where trips begin and end, along with transfers, trip purpose and demographic information. This information helps CATS understand how customers travel across the region and informs ridership modeling for service planning and corridor development.

What to expect:

  • Participation is voluntary. You may decline any question or stop at any time.

  • Surveyors will never ask for your Social Security number or bank account information.

  • Your answers will not affect your fare or your eligibility in discounted fare programs.

  • Surveyors do not want you to miss your stop. You can end the survey whenever you need to.

A separate Customer Satisfaction Survey will follow in October. This upcoming survey will gather opinions about your transit experience, including service reliability, comfort, courtesy and overall satisfaction.

Use the CATS-Pass app for live vehicle tracking and trip planning. For questions or concerns, riders can contact a customer service representative at 704-366-7433 or telltransit@charlottenc.gov.
