CHARLOTTE, N.C. – On Tuesday, Aug. 26, Carolina Ascent FC, Charlotte’s professional women’s soccer team, teamed up with the Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) in a surprise pop-up event on the Gold Line streetcar in Uptown Charlotte.
The athletes and coaching staff handed out Ascent gear and goodies on a streetcar vehicle wrapped in a colorful advertisement depicting the soccer team during the lunch rush. The team made stops at Trade and Tryon streets as well as Johnson C. Smith University, where the school drumline was waiting. The celebratory stops are part of an effort to drum up support for attending games via CATS transit, especially from customers who have convenient access to the Gold Line.
“We’re excited to have an 80-foot rolling billboard moving through Charlotte to showcase the Carolina Ascent and build even more fan support,” said Carolina Ascent Chief Revenue Officer Tom Ward. “With the season kicking off September 6, we can’t wait to get rolling and are excited to roll into the season with CATS.”
This season’s home opener kicks off at 7 p.m. on Sept. 6 at the American Legion Memorial Stadium against Tampa Bay. The stadium is just a short walk from the CPCC Gold Line stop and is convenient to several CATS bus routes.
“This is an exciting collab for CATS and taking the Gold Line to Carolina Ascent games just makes sense,” said CATS Chief Administration Officer, Elizabeth Presutti. “It’s a convenient way to get to the stadium and watch these athletes compete without having to worry about parking and traffic in Uptown.”
Riders and community members can expect to see the specially wrapped Carolina Ascent streetcar for the rest of the season! Riders can download the CATS-Pass app to track the Gold Line on their journeys to the season opener and any other Ascent FC home games this season.
