Upcoming Blue Line Single Tracking for South End Station Construction

Single Tracking will coincide with annual Rail Shutdown, April 25 and 26


To support construction of the future South End Station, the Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) will implement single-tracking on the Blue Line in addition to a full suspension of Blue and Gold Line services for scheduled preventative maintenance.

Phase 1: April 19 – 24

What’s happening: Trains will share a single track in South End.

  • Affected Stations: New Bern, East/West, and Bland Street.

  • Rider Impact: Track 1 platforms will be closed. Signage will guide customers to open platform. Possible delays, download the CAT-Pass App for real time tracking.

Phase 2: April 25 – 27 (Spring Rail Shutdown)

What’s happening: Both the Blue Line and Gold Line will be closed for scheduled preventative maintenance.

  • Timing: Saturday, April 25 at 2 a.m. until Monday, April 27 at 4 a.m.

  • Rider Impact: A Bus Bridge will replace all trains.

  • How to find your bus: Look for "Connector" signs at your station and buses displaying "Bus Bridge" on their digital signs.

Phase 3: April 27 – May 8

  • April 27 & 28: Bus Bridge continues, but only between Scaleybark and Bland stations.

  • April 29 – May 8: Bus bridge ends, trains share a single track at New Bern Station only. Track 2 platform will be closed. Signage will guide customers to open platform.

As a reminder, directional signage will be placed at each impacted station. Updates will be provided via the CATS-Pass App and CATS social media channels.
