CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) will implement several periods of single-tracking on the Blue Line throughout November and early December to support major system upgrades and ongoing construction of the new station in South End.

These improvements are part of CATS’ continued investment in enhancing service reliability, expanding access and keeping the Queen City moving forward.

Most of the single-tracking will allow crews to install a grade beam and concrete foundation for the new station in South End, located near the recently opened pedestrian rail crossing by Publix. Additionally, from Nov. 14 through 15, crews will perform concrete repairs at Archdale Station to maintain a safe and durable environment for customers.

“These improvements along the Blue Line are essential investments that will benefit our customers for years to come,” said Brent Cagle, interim CEO of CATS. “We appreciate the patience and understanding of our customers as we work to keep the Queen City moving forward.”

Boarding During Single Tracking

During single-tracking operations, all trains will use the same track through the work zone. Customers should pay close attention to platform directional signage, audio announcements and updates on the CATS-Pass app.

  • Nov. 2 – 13: All single-tracking will occur on the southbound track side (toward I-485/South Blvd Station). Customers must board all trains on the southbound platforms between New Bern and Bland stations.

  • Nov. 14 – Dec. 11: Single-tracking will shift to the northbound track side (toward Uptown/UNC Charlotte Main Station). Customers must board all trains on the northbound platforms at impacted stations.

Directional signage will be placed at stations to guide customers to the correct train boarding locations. Customers with questions or who need assistance may contact CATS Customer Service at 704-336-7433.
