CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) will temporarily suspend Gold Line service beginning 2 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 24 through 4 a.m. Monday, Oct. 26 as part of the system’s annual fall rail shutdown. This planned maintenance period will only affect the Gold Line. The Blue Line will continue operating on its regular weekend schedule.

The shutdown is required to support scheduled construction and maintenance activities throughout the Gold Line alignment, requiring road closures between French Street and the I-77 overpass. Additional lane closures will be present throughout the entire Gold Line alignment. Due to these road and lane closures, CATS will not operate a bus bridge during the Gold Line outage.

Customers traveling to their destinations along the Gold Line corridor will continue to have access to nearby CATS bus routes.

Bus Routes Serving the West Side (toward French Street Station)

  • Route 1 – Mount Holly

  • Route 7 – Beatties Ford

  • Route 8 – Tuckaseegee Road

Bus Routes Serving the East Side (toward Sunnyside Station)

  • Route 9 – Central Avenue

  • Route 14 – Providence Road

  • Route 15 – Randolph Road

  • Route 17 – Commonwealth Avenue

  • Route 27 – Monroe Road

CATS conducts rail shutdowns twice annually to perform essential maintenance work that supports long-term system safety and infrastructure reliability. During these activities, overhead electrical wires must be powered down so construction crews can safely complete scheduled improvements.
