Miller Lite Free Rides program launches in Charlotte, offering complimentary transportation on New Year’s Eve
Molson Coors extends its 35-year commitment to responsible celebrations into 2024

CHARLOTTE, N.C.– Dec. 13, 2023 – Molson Coors is ushering in a new holiday tradition this year with the introduction of its Miller Lite Free Rides program in Charlotte. Working with the Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS), Miller Lite is offering complimentary transit on New Year’s Eve to help residents celebrate the holiday season. Those in the Charlotte area can enjoy fare-free rides on Sunday, Dec. 31 from 5 a.m. until 2 a.m. Monday, Jan. 1 across all transit. This inaugural program in Charlotte provides holiday revelers with a responsible transportation option to celebrate the new year.

“Welcoming Miller Lite’s New Year’s Eve Free Rides tradition into our city is a reminder of Molson Coors' dedication to responsible celebrations,” said Courtney Thomas, Field Marketing Manager, Molson Coors. “As we gather together to ring in the New Year, we are honored to play a small role in the holiday festivities, ensuring that Charlotte residents and visitors alike can revel in the spirit of the season.”

Since its inception in 1988, the Free Rides program has been a cornerstone of Molson Coors' commitment to promoting responsible celebrations. Through collaborative efforts with local mass transit, the program has extended fare-free rides to more than 8 million individuals across the U.S. During last year’s New Year’s Eve Free Rides, nearly 170,000 individuals took advantage of complimentary transit to welcome in the new year.

“We are thrilled to usher in 2024 by offering a New Year’s Eve Free Rides program right here in Charlotte. As we look ahead to the promise that the new year brings, we also celebrate this program in the Queen City,” said Larina Green, CATS Marketing Manager. “As we strive to enhance the community experience, this initiative not only provides free rides but symbolizes our commitment to fostering a safer and more joyous celebration for every Charlottean.” The New Year’s Eve Free Rides program aligns with the City of Charlotte’s Vision Zero campaign, which was created to eliminate all traffic-related deaths and severe injuries, while increasing safety, health and mobility for all. Vision Zero focuses on how people naturally behave. People make mistakes, but mistakes should not be fatal.

The New Year’s Eve Free Rides program concludes this year’s annual initiative. This year, the program was offered in nine cities over the course of five events including St. Patrick’s Day, major holidays and professional sporting events. Molson Coors has expanded the Free Rides program over the past two years, providing increased access to free transportation options and reinforcing the company’s commitment to the communities it serves.

In addition to Charlotte, Molson Coors will offer fare-free rides on New Year’s Eve to residents in Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Milwaukee, Phoenix and Minneapolis-St. Paul.

Charlotte residents are encouraged to plan their free ride before the countdown to midnight begins. Riders can visit RideTransit.org and the CATS-Pass App to review transit routes and make arrangements for their journey into 2024.
