The Customer Service Division provides a wide range of community services, including account and billing services, new service connections, meter programs, field services, and the customer service operations center.

The division maintains over 320,000 service connections and is responsible for meter installation, maintenance, testing, repairs, and water service connections and disconnections.

Environmental Management

The Environmental Management Division (EMD) is the wastewater division of Charlotte Water. We believe in the protection of the environment and public health while promoting community prosperity. The Field Operations Division is the pipe maintenance division of Charlotte Water. We believe in providing continuous, reliable, and courteous service delivery. Field Operations successfully maintains the water distribution and wastewater collection pipe networks and other operational assets. Did you know that Charlotte Water maintains more than 9,000 miles of water and wastewater pipes? That’s enough stretch to Alaska and back!

Laboratory Services

Charlotte Water Laboratory Services is a state (NC) and nationally (NELAP) accredited laboratory with a diverse group of professionals. Charlotte Water Laboratory Services employees perform over 170,000 tests on water samples annually to support regional public health and environmental protection.

Drinking water, wastewater, industrial wastewater, storm water, groundwater, and surface water samples are collected and analyzed within the following laboratory sections: Field Services, Sample Receiving, General Chemistry, Microbiology, Metals, and Organics. Support sections include Quality Assurance and Business Services.

Our scientists, operating out of a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold certified facility, consistently demonstrate analytical proficiency and dedication to public service.

Water Treatment Plant Operators are responsible for producing safe and sufficient drinking water for the population served by managing day-to-day operations of a surface water treatment facility. Charlotte Water operates three water treatment facilities providing water to the public.

Charlotte Water’s Maintenance Division ensures that the equipment and operational systems used to treat water and wastewater operate smoothly and efficiently. Facilities Coordinators support the functionality, comfort, safety, sustainability, and efficiency of the buildings where we live and work, along with their surrounding infrastructure.
