What is Better Bus?

The Better Bus Plan builds upon the MTC adopted Envision My Ride vision of high frequency service, bus stop improvements and the deployment of CATS Micro throughout Mecklenburg County. Better Bus seeks to develop a customer focused implementation strategy to deploy service enhancements and bus stop improvements over a 5–10 year time period.

Better Bus will:

Increase accessibility to more that 320K jobs
within a half mile of the 15-minute
frequency routes, compared to 127K today.

Expand 15-minute frequency to serve 250K
more people within a quarter mile of transit,
compared to 29K today.

Increase access for 72% of Mecklenburg
County to at least 30-minute service
within a quarter-mile, serving 90% of the county within a half mile.

Fully implement the microtransit program, CATS Micro, across the county.

Mobility Hub: A spot where people can easily switch from one mode of transportation to another, making it simpler and more convenient to get around. 

On-Demand First-Mile / Last-Mile: A ride that helps someone reach the beginning or end of their transit journey. 

CATS Micro: An on-demand, shared-ride service that gets you where you need to go, for the same fare as a local bus or rail trip.
