CATS to Host Public Meetings to Identify Fare System Improvements

The Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) is planning fare system improvements to Modernize, Simplify and Grow Ridership while staying true to our commitment to making fare payment clear, convenient and easy to use, ensuring a positive transit experience for every customer.

CATS invites the public to provide feedback on the Fare Modernization Study during one virtual meeting and a series of in-person meetings to identify improvements to the fare system. Your feedback is essential! Additional public meetings are being planned and will be announced once times, dates and locations are finalized. 

Virtual Public Meeting:

  • Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2026 from Noon to 1:00 p.m.

  • Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2026 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.

  • Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2026 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.

    • Ella B. Scarborough Resource Center (430 Stitt Rd, Charlotte, NC 28213)
  • Tuesday, Feb. 3 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
    • Renaissance West Community Initiative - John T. Crawford Inspiration Room 199 (3610 Nobles Avenue, Charlotte, NC 28208)
  • Wednesday, Feb. 4 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.

Following the last in-person meeting, the public can submit feedback via the online survey until Feb. 19, 2026.

About the Fare Modernization Program

About 18 months ago, CATS launched the Fare Modernization Program with a comprehensive review of the existing fare structure and policies. This study identified opportunities to improve how customers pay for transit, ensuring the system continues to meet community needs as it grows.
