Charlotte, N.C. – (Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2026) – The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) recently announced additional charges for a repeat offender with 105 known interactions across multiple CMPD divisions since 2011 and 135 charges since 2022.

On June 29, U.S. Marshals Service Carolinas Regional Fugitive Task Force (USMS CRFTF) officers, with assistance from the CMPD Aviation Unit, located and arrested habitual felon Elijah Aziz Williams, 32, on multiple warrants out of both North and South Carolina, including four felony probation violations.

During the arrest, USMS CRFTF officers recovered approximately $2,600 in suspected stolen property, including multiple Lego sets, electronics and clothing. These items were turned over to CMPD for processing.

Following an extensive investigation by CMPD detectives, the recovered items from the June 29 case were linked to several felony larceny cases in the Hickory Grove Division. The stolen property was returned to the affected retailers, and additional warrants were sought for Williams.

Williams, who remains in the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office, was charged with:

  • Felony Larceny (2 counts)
  • Misdemeanor Larceny (2 counts)
  • Misdemeanor Conspiracy (2 counts)
  • Felony Possession of Burglary Tools

The investigation is ongoing, and additional charges may be forthcoming from other jurisdictions.

This case highlights how strong partnerships directly enhance public safety. Repeat offenders create significant and sustained harm within our community, driving up victimization numbers and continuing patterns of criminal activity that affect retailers, residents, and public safety overall. Thanks to the property recovered during the USMS CRFTF arrest and the subsequent investigative work by CMPD detectives, several outstanding cases were closed and stolen merchandise was returned to retailers. CMPD will continue to work closely with our local, state, and federal partners to address repeat offenders and reduce their widespread impact on the community.
