Homicide Investigation in the Freedom Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Friday, Sept. 26, 2025) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s (CMPD) Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 400 block of East Todd Lane in the Freedom Division.

On Sunday, Sept. 21, at approximately 3:40 a.m., Freedom Division officers responded to an Assault with a Deadly Weapon call for service in the 400 block of East Todd Lane.

Upon arrival, officers located a victim, Jeremiah Gonzalez, 16, with a gunshot wound. MEDIC transported Gonzalez to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The same day, division detectives located and arrested Yosue Ramos, 20, as a suspect in connection to this case. Ramos was later transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.

Ramos is charged with the following:

  • Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill or Inflict Serious Injury
  • Possession of a Firearm by Felon

On Wednesday, Sept. 25, Gonzalez succumbed to his injuries while in the hospital.

At this point, CMPD Homicide detectives took over the case and charged Ramos with Murder.

Mr. Gonzalez’s next of kin has been notified of his death and this arrest.

The investigation into this case is active and ongoing. As additional information develops, it will be released by the CMPD's Public Affairs Office.
